Vic A. Doloso - DJ Phlipp

Mabuhay! Salseros and Salseras! I am from the Philippines where Cha Cha was popular growing up and I learned it when I was 8 yrs old. I grew up on the eastside of Indy. In the 80's, break dancing and rap music were just getting popular. I used to be in several break dancing groups. The popular group called Jam Steady Crew that I was won a lot of talent shows. This is where my passion of dancing comes from and where my Salsa hip hop Style comes from.

One night last February 2006 several friends and I went to the Jazz Kitchen. That was my first time at a Latin night. The first person I saw dancing was an Asian man. He was very good. I said to myself if that Asian man can do it, I'm sure I can learn this somehow. Well, knowing now that Asian man was Yang. That was my very first night at the Jazz Kitchen. I was going through a very stressful time of my life. That week I talked to my Marriage Therapist. She told me to find something that I like to do to keep my time occupied. Dancing was something that I always liked to do, so I decided to sign up the next week at Intosalsa. I talked toYang and see if I should start at beginning classes. I told him that I used to be a street dancer and grew up with Cha Cha. I took lessons for the whole month of March and went to my first Salsa Sunday Social on March 26, 2006. There I met two salseros - Edel and Israel from Puerto Rico. They invited me to the Havana Night at the Savoy. That was the weekend I met all my Latin friends: Gino, Francisco and Javier of The VIP Crew. Then every Friday we had gone to the Savoy. The rest was history for me.

Now I've been going to The Red Room every Wednesday Night for my lesson and the party for last 10 months. Of course I'm at the Vault every other weekend with DJ Jimmie Jim and The VIP Crew. Last August 12, 2006, DJ Jimmie Jim went out of town and they needed a DJ for that night for the Vault. It was the first night the Vault reopens. Mike of the Vault gave me an opportunity to DJ that night. Ever since then I've learned more about Salsa, Bachata and Merengue music from DJ Jimmie Jim and DJ Shawn Juan, and Reggaeton from "Gino El Campeon" and The VIP Crew. This is where the love of music comes from because I've been DJing at wedding receptions, schools, birthday parties, and festivals, and I've worked for the top Mobile DJ in town for the last 10 years. My DJ Company is called Simply By Request Entertainment. I love music since I was young listening to the count down every Saturday. Now all I listen to in my car is Salsa, Bachata and Merengue. I co-DJ with DJ Jimmie Jim every Saturday.

It has been wonderful to learn from the best Salsa school in Indianapolis. I want to thank Erin and Yang for being the best teachers. You've affected a lot of people's lives by teaching them how to dance. I didn't expect to be able to do all these Latin dances at first. Now Salsa has totally changed my social life. If an Asian man can dance, so can you.
