Jason Albino
Although I have always enjoyed Salsa music, I
was introduced to Salsa dancing while studying in Montreal. Coming from
a musical background and playing various instruments, I have always
had an appreciation for its melodies and its rhythms. The bottom line
is that they are so infectious, it was impossible for me to sit still
while the music played. I was initially intrigued with the patterns
and the footwork demonstrated by these dancers. After taking some lessons,
I realized that I enjoyed the music to a greater extent.
Upon my arrival in Indiana, I admit that I did not expect to ever build
upon what I had learned in Montreal. As a result, I had decided to devote
my time and my energy into music and other interests. Then one evening
I had decided to go to the Jazz Kitchen on a Thursday night. My expectation
made a 180 degree turn. I was so happy to find other salseros and salseras
in
Indianapolis. That one night in Indy reignited my interest in dancing
to Salsa. That same evening I had met Yang and Erin and met a set of
great people through the IntoSalsa community. I want to say that they
are doing a great job in promoting Salsa in Indy. In the near future,
I will continue to learn the craft and to sharpen my skills. Eventually,
I would like to return to the stage and to perform. I have made some
great friendships through Salsa and that has helped make my first year
in Indiana a very memorable one.
