Susan Watson
I remember my first Salsa lesson in February.
Yang and Erin showed us all the things we would learn in four weeks
of beginner lessons, and I was mesmerized and full of disbelief. You
see, I had never seen anyone dance Salsa before, and I was pretty sure
that I wouldn't be able to move that smoothly to music that was so fast
paced and foreign to me. Six months and countless Salsa lessons later,
I'm definitely hooked. When I approach a Salsa club and hear the music,
I can't wait to get inside and dance. But that's not the only time I've
felt the impulse to move to a Salsa beat. . .let's see. . . there was
that time in a restaurant parking lot, in a shoe
store, at a bowling alley, on a sidewalk, at a marina, and on a mini
golf course just to name a few. I love the challenge of the lessons
and the fun, spontaneous, in the moment feeling of connection with your
partner where every dance is filled with one surprise after another.
I hope there will always be opportunities for me to dance Salsa, and
if I find myself in a retirement home someday, they better offer "Salsa
for Seniors" because I'm going to need it!
