Cherylann Howard
Hi everyone. My name is CJ and I am a
native of Trinidad and Tobago. T&T is a small, tropical island in
the Caribbean off the northern coast of Venezuela. I am the only child
of Carmen and Bonie lopez, but it never felt like it because I have
always had lots and lots of cousins around me. As long as I can remember
I have always loved to dance. I loved to island hop and "play mas"
for Carnival. Carnival in Trinidad is famous for the sweet, steel drums
which form the foundation for our native Soca music. During Carnival,
we dance all day and all night to Soca.
I moved to the US about 12 years ago. Soon after, I met and married
my husband, Kenny. When Kenny became interested in Latin dancing, I
was light years ahead of him. My father is originally from Venezuela
and he has always danced with my mother. Merengue music is very similar
to Soca, and I have been dancing to it all of my life.
I love go to parties to dance and look at other people dancing; that
is were I learn and pick up most of my style of dancing. I really don't
like to spend too much time practicing and practicing and practicing,
I just wanna have fun. Unfortunately, my husband needs as much practice
as he can get.
