IntoSalsa: Latin Energy at its best
by Gary Walter
posted May 17, 2005
If you feel the Latin beat, if you enjoy the "Latin Experience",
then feel the Latin Energy because Intosalsa is here and very much establishing
itself as the premier Latin Dance Center. Thursday night was Salsa
de Mayo 2005: Indy's celebration of Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican
holiday celebrating the victory over the French in 1862.
Perhaps we should also celebrate the coming out performance of IntoSalsa
Dance Company. They were fast, they were tight, they looked good,
and they generated an energy that filled the Blue Cactus with a buzz
of professional dancers. How could the crowd resist not jumping up at
the first opportunity to try out this "Latin Experience".
It could be said that some of the steps were taken from the new IntoSalsa
Dance Studio (located above Acapulco Joe's), but choreographic
liberation showed the real potential of this group. As Yang and Erin
teach: whatever you learn in the studio - take it to the dancefloor!
The night provided wonderful live entertainment from Salsa & Company
Latin Ensemble including Rumba, Cha Cha, and a Samba which was particularly
enjoyable for those oldie rhythm dancers like myself. Followed of course
by Dj Taz and his vibrant mix of Salsa beats.
Add a mix of Douglas the Magician who provided a brilliant set of tricks
and illusions on and off stage, and you had the makings of a very successful
Thursday night.
Thanks to NSHMBA for their time and contributions to the unprivileged
Hispanic high school students: the $5 door charge goes to a great cause
and was worth every cent. Visit indianapolis.nshmba.org
for more info.
More occasions like this can only make the Latin Scene in Indy that
much more enjoyable.
