August 2, 2006
- The final of the IntoSalsa First Annual Salsa Dance Competition took place last Wednesday at The Red Room. The level of dancing was the highest in any Salsa competition we've seen in Indy. The dancers came out in their costumes and gave everything they had. The audience packed the room and closely watched every move by the dancers. The four couples all had different styles, which made it very hard to judge. In the end, the winners of the IntoSalsa First Annual Salsa Dance Competition were Chad & Karina. Their style, energy, and athleticism won the hearts of the judges. The scores between Shayne & Barbara and Marques & Chimere were a tie. The judges had to vote to break the tie. Shayne & Barbara received the highest number of votes and won second place and Marques & Chimere received third. The fourth place went to Lucio & Cynthia. We appreciate the hard work of all the dancers. We also want to thank the judges and volunteers who helped to make this event a success. Click here to read an interview with Chad & Karina. There were also tears. As people sang happy birthday to Shayne, she was very touched by the love from her salsa friends. It was like a big family. We'll continue to have the Sunday Social at the end of each month. Click here for videos. Click here for photos.

June 13, 2006 - The past couple of months we saw a big surge of interest in Salsa and Latin dancing. Maybe it's the shows like So You Think You Can Dance, or Dancing with the Stars. Maybe it's the warmer weather. Whatever the case might be, every Wednesday night the dance floor gets packed at the Red Room. Advanced dancers would burn up the floor, and the beginners would practice the new moves they just learned in class. DJ Shawn Juan plays a lot of great Salsa, and mixes in some classic Cha Cha, high energy Merengue, and sexy Bachata. People love to come out for their mid-week Salsa fix. Finally, Indianapolis has a place for the true Salseros. IntoSalsa has been supporting the Red Room for almost two years. We teach Salsa classes there every Wednesday night. Click here for a video of Across Indiana show aired on WFYI. You'll see what this is all about!

We had a great turn out to the recent Bachata Dance Contest and the Mardi Gras Mambo. Last month a large group of salseros and salseras went to the Chicago International Salsa Congress. For four days, they took classes, watched performances, and danced with some of the best dancers in the world! What they brought back to Indy will help bring Salsa dancing to a higher level. As a conclusion to all the good things that happened in February, we hosted the first Sunday Social at IntoSalsa Latin Dance Studio. Here you will find beauty tips, fashion tips, health, cooking, fitness, entertainment and practical advice. IntoSalsa and Bella have been partners for two years.

January 18, 2006 - Talk about seduction - IntoSalsa was sexin' it up big time at The Vault last Saturday! The ladies were struttin' their stuff in stilettos and itty bitty mini skirts. Who could ask for more? An all girl group called, "O" danced a seductive choreography on the bar. With fire lighting up the bar, the girls first shocked the crowd, and then drove people crazy. Ooooooo what a good time it was! If you missed the party, the "O" girls will be back soon to surprise you again! Click here for photos from the party.

January 3, 2006 - Happy new year! Did you survive all the drinking, dancing, and partying? We did - barely, at our New Year's Eve Party. It was a great way to finish 2005. Everybody was in a festive mood. Geno "El Campeon" spiced things up with his Reggaeton performance. DJ Jimmie Jim made sure the dance floor was full all night. The highlight of the night came as the count down started. The crowd erupted into a euphoria and the champagne bottles started popping. Click here for photos from the party.

December 20, 2005 - Christmas came early last Saturday night at IntoSalsa's Xmas Jam. It was the best turn out at The Vault so far. The music was jamming and the dance floor was packed. Latino Idol finalist, Laura Morenco wowed the crowd with her beautiful voice. The highlight of the night came when we gave away prizes to two lucky winners: Paula won the DVD player and Rogelio walked home with the flat screen TV. Click here to see highlights from the party.

December 13, 2005 - IntoSalsa Night was officially back last Saturday at The Vault. We want to thank those who came despite the cold and the snow. It was also DJ TaZ's birthday, and he had some surprises for everyone. For one, he didn't dress up as a woman this time. Then the real surprise was the performance by the Midwest Belly Dance Superstars. They put on a great show. People were happy about the change to Saturdays, as well as the location. The Vault has friendly staff, great atmosphere, and the best looking Latin dance crowd in Indy. We'll have many more parties to come! Click here to see pictures.

November 22, 2005 - Last Friday was our Puerto Rican Night. Some proud Boriquas showed up in red, white, blue to celebrate their heritage. DJ Jimmie Jim from Puerto Rico rocked the house with the hottest Puerto Rican Salsa and Reggaeton. It was also Maria's birthday party as well as Yoeny & Yodeny's farewell party. The Cuban twin sensations are moving to Florida to pursue their dreams of dancing on stage. Let's wish them best luck! Click here to see pictures from the party.

November 15, 2005
- Pink was definitely the hottest color last Friday. Girls and guys showed up in various degrees of pink to our Pink Friday at The Vault. Most girls found something pink in their closets, yet some had to go out to buy the perfect pink shirt or skirt for this special occation. Guys were not shy of flaunting their softer side either. They felt quite comfortable in their new skin, and kept the girls on their feet all night. Who said there's no fashion in Indianapolis? We'll prove them wrong if they come to the next Latin Flava Friday! Click here to see photos.

November 1, 2005
- Last Friday night the Vault was transformed into a creepy haunted house with a giant spider hovering above the bar. The dance floor was a graveyard filled with vampires, catwomen, mummies, pirates, prisoners, devils, and other creatures dancing to some very scary beats. Our second IntoSalsa Halloween Mascarade was so hot that the police wanted to shut it down! DJ TaZ and DJ Jimmy plus percussionists Gerardo and Roberto kept 200+ people on their feet all night. Even a blown speaker didn't stop the people from dancing. Click here to see pictures.

October 25, 2005 - Thanks for coming to our 2 Year Anniversary Party last Friday. It was great to see so many familiar faces. We've known some of the people for 6, 7 years now. IntoSalsa couldn't have had the parties at IL Gargano, Blue Cactus, or the Vault without your support. The Indianapolis Salsa community has become like a family in the past couple years. It's a nice feeling walking into a club and people all greet each other with a smile, no matter what color, race, or nationality you are. Of course, there's always dancing - what brought us together in the first place! Let's hope there are many more years to come. Click here to see pictures from the party.

October 12, 2005 - Last Friday at the Vault we kicked off the weekend with a bang. Dancers hit the new hardwood dance floor like children at a playground. The new decór at the Vault created a sulty ambience for those who enjoyed cocktails while watching the dancers groove to tropical beats. Halfway through the night, DJ TaZ spinned a hot Reggaeton song that got the ladies dancing on top of the bar. No man left the club without a smile on his face. September 19, 2005
- The 25th Fiesta Indianapolis took place last Saturday in downtown. It was a celebration of Latin culture, music, dance, and people. From start to finish, It couldn't have been more perfect. Two thumbs up to La Plaza who organized this event. IntoSalsa is proud to be one of the sponsors. We met many new friends at our booth and entertained the audience with our dance performances. The official DJ of Fiesta - DJ TaZ kept the crowd on their feet with the hottest Latin rhythms throughout the day. At night, three Salsa bands including Puerto Rican Power rocked the Fiesta with great performances. Fiesta turned into the biggest street party of the year followed by the most amazing After Party at the IntoSalsa Latin Dance Studio. The whole Indianapolis Salsa community was there! Even Puerto Rican Power made a surprise visit to the party and danced along with us!!!

September 13, 2005 - On Friday, September 9th, IntoSalsa and Yat's Restaurant teamed up for a "Salsa for a Cause" Street Party. The goal of this event was to raise money for the Katrina Relief Fund. Many people showed up and donated to the cause. It was a great night of music, dancing, food, and the arts. People from all walks of life crowded the street corner to dance to the hottest Salsa rhythms of Indy by Dj TaZ and percussionists Gerardo and Roberto. It was a celebration of the city that was and will be again - The Big Easy. Special thanks to Yat's, who gave away cajun food and free drinks. Over $900 was raised for the American Red Cross. Read this article by Nivanka Paranavitana, who helped organize this event. Click here to see pictures from the street party.

August 23, 2005 - Last Friday, if you did not know that IntoSalsa was a Latin dance studio, you would have thought that we were running a house of burlesque. Ladies sauntered in from their cars in fluttery lingerie as guys on the fire escape above shouted their approval. However, we try to keep it as clean as possible, so what was really going on was IntoSalsa's Pajama Jam! Studio Party. Everyone danced into the night to Dj TaZ - or shall I say - Madame Taz's sultry salsa rhythms. What better way is there to beat the August heat than dancing in as little clothing as possible?
Click here to see photos from the party.

August 9, 2005 - Last Saturday our IntoSalsa Cookout took place at Uko's house. Those of you who missed it really missed out! There were lots of food, lots of friends, and lots of entertainment. Between intermitent games of volleyball and table tennis, people were entertained by Douglas the magician. He never ceased to amaze those around him. There was also a fashion show put on by our very own "Hot Donna" and her entourage of stylish salseras and salseros. The weather was hot, but their threads were even hotter. Click here for pictures from the cookout.

July 7, 2005 - Last weekend IntoSalsa brought a group of salseros and salseras to Chicago for 4 days of fun. This is the second IntoSalsa Field Trip to Chi-town. We had some great dancing at different Salsa clubs. Indy dancers held their own dancing with some of the best dancers in Chicago. We also had a blast at the Taste of Chicago, Summer Dance in Grant Park, and Independence Eve Fireworks. It was overwelming being around millions of people at some of the events. Back in Indy, we want to to share our experience with everyone. Click here for pictures from Chicago.

June 29, 2005
- Lights! Camera! Swimwear! Last Saturday night IntoSalsa, Catou, and Bella Magazine teamed up to host the very first Swimwear Review Party at The Blue Cactus. Before the show, people enjoyed dance performance by IntoSalsa Dance Company. Then we turned the dance floor into a runway as our models displayed the latest summer fashion from Catou. The party was definitely one of the hottest this summer. Special thanks to WIP downtown for hair design. Click here to see photos.

June 21, 2005 - We want to thank everyone who came to our Grand Opening Party last Friday. It was nice to see many old friends and new faces. People enjoyed Champagne and wine, great music, performance by IntoSalsa Dance Company, and non-stop Salsa dancing. This is a new beginning for IntoSalsa. Our studio has over 1500 square feet of hardwood floor. It is available for private parties, weddings, and corporate events. We are also going to have monthly Salsa parties at the studio. Stay tuned.

May 17, 2005 - If you feel the Latin beat, if you enjoy the "Latin Experience", then you must have felt the Latin Energy last Thursday at the Salsa de Mayo 2005 at the Blue Cactus. The National Society of Hispanic MBAs and IntoSalsa were proud to create a night of magic for all the people who showed up to support the Project Stepping Stone Scholarship Fund, which helps underprivileged Hispanic high school students attend college. It was also the debut of the IntoSalsa Dance Company whose performance rocked the Blue Cactus. Click here to see pictures from the party.

March 8, 2005 - What does Indianapolis and Rio de Janeiro have in common? Well, let's see: tropical weather, sandy beach, and a strong Portugese influence. O.K. you know we are joking. One thing we have in common is
Brazilian Carnival - the colorful Brazilian extranvaganza. While it's still cold here in March, the Union Station's Grand Hall was hotter than ever last Saturday night: a beautiful crowd, live music, rum cocktails, Brazilian food, and of course Samba dancing. Dj TaZ and a live Samba band played fast Brazilian beats while a Samba dance troupe dazzled the crowd with their elaborate costumes and sexy moves. The goal of this event is to provide a cultural experience and raise money for St. Vincent Women's hospital. We're honored to be part of it.

Last Sunday we had another packed house for the
VIP Sneak Preview of Orquesta Bravo at the Blue Cactus. An elegant crowd showed up in their sexy Salsa attire for this occasion. This new Salsa band has three great vocalists and ten musicians who played their hearts out with an excellent repertoire of Salsa songs. They provided what's desperately needed in the Indy Salsa scene. It's been a while since we've heard a local Salsa band play. Hopefully, it won't be long before we see Orquesta Bravo again. -
After two weeks, our
Salsa for a Cause tsunami relief fundraiser finally came to an end. Indy salseros and salseras really stepped up and lent a helping hand. We raised over $8,000 for the Sri Lankan tsunami victims. Special thanks to Eli Lilly and Company's effort to match every dollar we raised. This shows how much this community cares. Congratulations to the raffle winners.

December 9, 2004 - Thanks everyone for coming to the
IntoSalsa Charity Ball at the Blue Cactus last Saturday. We helped raise almost $1000 for The Calnali Health Education Outreach Program, which provides health care and education for a medically underserved population residing in Calnali, Hidalgo, Mexico. The money will help a team of Spanish speaking medical students, dental students, nursing students, and physicians to travel to Calnali in the Spring. IntoSalsa and IU School of Medicine were the proud sponsors of this fundraiser. Click here for pictures.

September 1, 2004 - On Saturday, August 28, the fashion-conscious and clothes-curious crowded the
Athletic Club Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis for the first annual Mujer Latina Fashion Show, benefiting the Association of Mexican Women and hosted by BELLA Magazine and Fiesta Indianapolis, Inc. IntoSalsa was proud to be one of the sponsors. We also hosted the Mujer Latina After Party at the Blue Cactus. The party continued from the runway to the dance floor as models, dancers, and partiers enjoyed music and martinis together. Salseros and salseras demonstrated their fervent love of dancing and socializing. The Blue Cactus had its hottest night ever! Click here for pictures.

July 14, 2004 - After a couple of weeks' break,
IntoSalsa Night was back last Saturday at Bourbon Street Distillery. It was one of the biggest salsa parties this year! Almost 200 people came to enjoy dancing and say good-by to Ayben. She is leaving today to go back home to Turkey. We will all miss her smile, energy, and in-your-face belly dancing. She and other Turkish girls put on a show dancing in a circle to some fast beats. People also enjoyed the spectacular views of downtown while they cooled off on the balcony. It was a summer night to remember, but we will have many more to come.

July 6, 2004 - Lake, barbeque, children, adults, salsa dancing. . . this was the scene of the first
IntoSalsa Cookout on July 4th. It was picture perfect with our friends dancing, laughing, and enjoying the cookout on this special day. I want to thank everyone who came and made this event special. Rudo and her friend provided the extra grills and many other things that we needed. Our grill master, Kenny, saved the cookout from turing into a disaster. Of course, Dj TaZ played the best music under the sun. It couldn't be more perfect. Click here to see pictures from the cookout.

June 3, 2004 - On Friday, May 28th, thirty Indy salseros and salseras journeyed to Chicago for a weekend of Latin dancing. We crammed two Latin clubs, three birthdays, one Salsa workshop, a tour to Chinatown, and tons of fun memories into our three-day stay in Chicago. Some die-hard partier stayed for an extra day for more dancing. Who could forget Patricia's coconut cake? She's the one who always feeds us. To share our experience with everyone at home, we have many pictures from this trip. There will be many more Chicago trips to come. Stay tuned.

May 18, 2004 - Last Thursday we had an exciting networking event at
The Jazz Kitchen - NSHMBA Salsa De Mayo. This event was sponsored by NSHMBA (National Society of Hispanic MBAs) and INtoSalsa to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. NSHMBA members mingled with INtoSalsa students while enjoying wonderful food from Jazz Kitchen. We gave a Salsa performance and a free lesson, and everybody started dancing afterwards.

February 18, 2004 - Last Saturday was Valentine's Day
"Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" Party at IL Gargano. We treated our guests with free Champagne, chocolate dipped strawberries, pasta and international music all night. Thank you for making your date with INtoSalsa. The battle between men and women turned out to be very one-sided. Ladies easily won both the Limbo and the "Shake Off" contests.
Click here for pictures from the party.

January 7, 2004 - Happy New Year! 2003 is behind us. What a year it has been! Since the summer, INtoSalsa has been growing quickly through classes, performances, and events. We have also sponsored monthly international events at different venues. Hundreds of people have attended these events. On New Year's Eve,
INtoSalsa and Dj TaZ teamed up to bring the New Year's Eve Extravaganza at IL Gargano Italian restaurant. There were tons of international music and dance, party favors, and surprise entertainment. Just see for yourself what a party it was.
